Get Free Music | Books … And More: Free Music Available At Library
Looking for a way to get free music that you can play on any iPod, iPhone or other mp3 player? The Ela Area Public Library, 275 Mohawk Trail, Lake Zurich, now offers music you can download and keep for free.
Available through the library’s website, www.eapl.org , Freegal Music is a new service that offers over 400,000 songs from over 50 Sony-affiliated labels including Columbia, RCA, Sony Classical and Arista. All downloads are in mp3 format, giving users the most flexibility to use them as they wish, on Mac or PC. An Ela Area Library Card number is needed to get started. Downloads are limited to three songs per week.
All Aboard the Reading Express! It’s not too late for children of all ages to join the library’s winter reading club. Participants are encouraged to read or have someone read to you for a total of 15 hours. The club runs through Jan. 30. Children who read the required amount of time will receive a paperback book as a prize.

Join the library’s nonfiction discussion group on from 10-11:30 a.m. Friday. The group’s next gathering will examine the book Infidel by Ayaan Hirsi Ali.

Learn to create your own magical snow globe using edible materials at 2 p.m. Monday at the library. PartyCakes, PartyCakes will present this fun, creative polar bear snow globe workshop using marshmallow fondant, chocolate chip muffins and a variety of other tasty treats. This workshop is geared for kids in grades 1-5.

Learn how to spot cyber threats to your data and equipment that exist through e-mail and the Internet from noon to 1:30 p.m. Jan. 24 at the library. Presented by Rich Keller of Friendly Computers, the workshop will also cover some of the tools and methods commonly used to protect your system and personal files. Participants are encouraged to bring questions involving computer and data safety and backup. A free lunch will be served.

Teens – if you’ve already started earning your own money, you won’t want to miss this informative workshop on income taxes geared for young adults at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 24. Certified public accountant Brian Daly will discuss taxes, deductions and filing procedures for teens ages 15-20 and their parents.

Registered dietician Joan Schwaba will help you understand the new dietary guidelines for Americans from 7-8 p.m. Jan. 26 at the library. Published every five years, the guidelines provide authoritative advice for people two years and older about how good dietary habits can promote health and reduce risk for major chronic diseases. They serve as the basis for federal food and nutrition education programs.
